Earlier this week, a team of American researchers led by Robert Sarmast announced they had discovered the acropolis of Atlantis off the coast of Cyprus. "I am absolutely convinced I have found Atlantis," Sarmat said, claiming to have seen sonar readings indicating such man-made structures as walls and trenches.
However, that's not to say that his controvercial claim is going unquestioned. First, he has yet to show any actual sonar photographs from the expedition, offering only computer-generated substitutions. Also, German physicist Christian Huebscher claims he has been to the area before, and found that the "ruins" were actually the result of underwater volcano activity (Sarmast and team have dismissed this allegation). And let's not forget when Atlantis was "discovered" last June off the coast of Spain.
