SMALL HUMANS FOUND IN CAVE DWELLING

Scientists working on an island in Indonesia claim to have found a cave containing the bones of an apparently dwarf-sized species of man. They appear to have lived about 18,000 years ago and have been dubbed Homo floresiensis after the island of Flores in which they were discovered. Some scientists reject that they are even part of the human line:

"I don't think anybody can pigeonhole this into the very simple-minded theories of what is human," anthropologist Jeffery Schwartz of the University of Pittsburgh. "There is no biological reason to call it Homo. We have to rethink what it is."
