The city of Bielefeld in north-west Germany boasts about 330,000 people and is one of the country's 20 largest cities. However, students at the nearby University of Kiel believe it doesn't exist - or at least, that there is more to it than meets the eye.
Such rumors first began when the Kiel students realized that though they had all heard about Bielefeld throughout their lives, none had ever visited, nor had any met an actual resident of the city. They began to suggest that perhaps Bielefeld didn't exist. Then, suddenly, they started to encounter people who claimed to be from the city (often stating this with a zombie-like demeanor). Bielefeld began to appear on a daily basis in the news. An official website for the city appeared.
The students believe that the city of Bielefeld is part of a giant conspiracy to cover up some insidious secret. They claim that those who pass through are abducted and taken to the "Bielefeld Center," where they are brain-washed and sent on their way. Reasons for the conspiracy include Elvis, an underground tunnel from the US to Australia through Atlantis, and a cave system housing a sleeping dragon from the "fourth age," who is cared for by "ancient knights" who take orders from extra-terrestrials. Watch out, because the dragon is scheduled to wake up on December 24, 2011.
