Using hydrogen sulfide, a natural chemical produced by humans and animals, scientists have successfully put mice into a hibernation-like state for a period of six hours and successfully revived them. According to lead researcher Mark Roth, the animals are effectively being converted from warm-blooded to cold-blooded. The state was brought on by having the mice breathe air laced with hydrogen sulfide, which binds cells in place of oxygen. The mice awoke when oxygen was later provided to them. Scientists now hope to test this out on larger mammals, with humans being a possibility.
