BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTS MYSTERY - SOLVED?
From far back into history, strange lights have been reported around Brown Mountain in western North Carolina. Cherokee Indians thought the lights were from fallen soldiers, while early Scotch settlers believed them to be lost hunters. Three different government studies were inconclusive, citing either swamp gas or passing trains as possible culprits.

Now, a team of paranormalists claims to have an answer: static electricity.

"What seems to be happening is, when there is a rainy spell, water runs through mountain -- we found big holes where you can look in and see water rushing through," said Joshua Warren, of LEMUR Paranormal Investigations. "As the water runs through the mountain, it builds up a charge on these layers of quartz and magnetite."
