VILLAGERS DANCE TO AVOID ONION WITCH
Hundreds of villagers participated in a dance festival in the northern Indian state of Bihar on Monday, in order to ward off evil spirits. A traditional festival that includes offering gifts and alcohol in sacrifice, this particular instance was provoked by rumors of an "onion witch" in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh. According to legend, the onion witch comes to your door asking for onions; after she leaves, a death occurs in the house.

Ghosts and witches play a large part in rural Indian culture. In February, supposedly possessed women came to Central India to have ghosts beaten out of them by brooms.
