MURDER-SUICIDE AND A CODED MESSAGE
Everything about David Rayburn, an internet technician from Saugus, Massachusetts, seemed normal when he hosted a Super Bowl party for friends and family. Few would suspect that 24 hours later, he would kill his wife and stepson with a hammer, then hang himself in the cellar. Police found only a brief note.

Why would this appeal to SW readers? The note is a allegedly cryptogram of some kind and has yet to be solved. According to schneir.com, a site on cryptography, they received an email from a friend of Rayburn's daughter, who is looking for help decoding it. This is definitely the type of thing that could turn out to spell "You were duped!" but then again, it's quite an esoteric story to build a hoax on.

COMMENTS

see, cryptograms make the everyday run-of-the-mill ho-hum murder much more interesting!
