SILENCE SURROUNDS MYSTERIOUS DEATHS OF DIVERS
Five-hundred miles north of Alaska, two divers died under the ice and no one has any answers. Lt. Jessica Hill and Boatswain's Mate Steven Duque had gone on a dive, tethered to the Coast Guard cutter ship Healy which carried three dozen scientists collecting data that would help them map the ocean floor and study the Earth's crust. Both had extensive training in diving, and are the first Coast Guard divers to die underwater since the 1970's.

Since the tragedy occurred on August 17, no public answer for the deaths has been released. Two investigations have been started by the Coast Guard, the Healy's captain has been relieved, all diving equipment has been removed from the ship and all polar diving has been suspended. But nothing has been released regarding the nature of the deaths - not even death certificates.
