For centuries, the white buffalo has been considered a sacred symbol to various Native American tribes. According to one legend, a white buffalo appeared to two men in the disguise of of a woman wearing white hides. One man was disrespectful, and she turned him into a pile of bones. The other showed respect, and she gave him a pipe and taught his tribe rituals and music. The birth of a white buffalo, a one-in-a-million occurance, is still considered a spiritual event. It is believed that a white buffalo will one day reunite all races of man and bring balance to the world. One farm in Wisconsin is quickly becoming sacred ground for those who hold these beliefs: a white buffalo was born in August following a thunderstorm, the third to date. The farm's first white buffalo, Miracle, was born in 1994 and died 10 years later. The second was born in 1996 but died after only 3 days. Thousands have made pilgrimages to the farm over the past 12 years, leaving offerings in hopes of good luck.
