According to Dr. Olaf Blanke, a neurologist at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland, out of body experiences can be chalked up to chemical activity in the brain. Tests were carried out on two women, who were being evaluted for epilepsy surgery. Electrodes were placed in various parts of their brains. When the electrodes were fired, the patients were asked to describe the sensations they gave. One woman suddenly felt she was hanging from the ceiling, looking down at her body; another gave the woman the feeling that someone was behind her. The findings were published in Nature magazine two weeks ago.
